Twitter Tips: Providing Valuable Information that Make People Want to Follow You
November 9, 2009 by TwitterFreak · Leave a Comment
Now that you have an account, have done some following and have some followers it’s time to contribute and meet some new people. (Note, for the first few weeks I suggest following people in your niche or interested in your niche so that you build a base of people to build relationships with.)
The whole follow people and get followed back practice, in mass, was not very appealing to me before but I now mix up the techniques that I use to get followers. We will chat more about that later. Today it is all content.
When I began tweeting I was posting about myself and my own business. I would just post some of the tasks that I performed for my business that day. Maybe 6 to 12 Tweets per day. Then I began posting some of my favorite quotes. I usually scheduled all of my quotes for the week on Sunday night. I was sending 2 to 3 quotes a day when I started.
I realized that I was earning a lot more followers by posting famour quotes than I had been gaining by Tweeting about myself. I knew people were now finding value in my posts because my followers growing like never before. The more valuable the information I Tweeted the more people retweeted my posts and the more followers I gained.
As I learned more and more about Twitter posting good content I posted more and more quotes for a few months. So I began to Tweet about my favorite blog posts from other bloggers. Once I began tweeting links my interaction really stepped it up a level. I have always used Googe Alerts to track my favorite topics and keywords related to my online businesses. So I began to put Google Alerts to work.
Each morning I would read through all of my Google Alerts and post links to the most compelling and valuable content. I was using Tweetlater to schedule all of these excellent stories and was earning more followers than earning before].
When I realized that posting to my favorite content was working I decided to begin Tweeting about my own content. As my original blog content grew and grew the more I posted linked to my own site. And the more often I blogged the more Twitter followers I got and the more readers I acquired for my blog.
So I was experimenting with content and began finding out what drove the most visitors to my blog and what got the most interest from my new found Twitter community.
