Twitter -€“ Am I Missing Something?

Although Twitter is captivating and watching ones followers increase is great fun at the same time I find it rather frustrating. First you have the people who want to tell you what they are having for dinner. These people should create a personal twitter profile to communicate with friends who give a hoot! I really don’t want my twitter pages clogged up with what people are eating or drinking or planning for their evening activities. Therefore I have a very quick “unfollow” finger when it comes to those people.

Then you have the people who, under the guise of sending out interesting content to their followers, send a continuous stream of links to news items?? Do they think we can’t read? Is it not true that those of us who follow the news will get it from our preferred source? They are clogging up our space! Unfollow!

Then there is the frustration that makes me wonder if anyone is really reading anything. I make a point of only posting things which may either a) stimulate a dialogue in my related field of internet marketing or b) be of interest to those who have chosen to follow and be followed by me.  With this in mind, sometimes I put out a question such as “Does anybody know how long it takes for followers to be listed on your DM list? ” Reasonable question, one would think someone would reply. Nope. Nada. Does this mean nobody reads what I write? Will I begin to develop an insecurity complex because no one finds my tweets interesting enough to read?

The benefits to using Twitter when launching a new product are definitely there. If you have a personal profile for use to update friends and family – great fun. But it just seems to me that it will become clogged with useless garble and may possibly lose the luster of being a marketing tool? Comments welcome…..
