There are lots of great ways to get your links out there—you are probably already using them:

I started a new Twitter account, and started following a bunch of other people and “guru’s” in Internet Marketing. I also found a cool tool called TweetLater that I set up so that when someone follows me, I automatically follow them back.

A lot of people have it set up so that when I follow them, they follow me. I’ve built up a few hundred people I am following and who are following me, and I posted my twitter name on my blog so that people can follow me too.

There is an awesome tool for social bookmarking called Social Marker ‘you can go in there and bookmark your web pages with tons of the social bookmarking websites.

I recommend that you only use 5 or 10 at a time so that you aren’t spamming your links everywhere.

You want to make sure that you are always giving—not spamming. Provide not only valuable, but relevant information.

If what you are providing is relevant and of value to them, they’re going to want more of it. This is one of the primary reasons for a squeeze page. When they come back for more, you’ll have their information.

I also created free web pages, added my content, and linked back to my website using free tools that most people know about:

- Blogger: Create your free blog
- HubPages
- Weebly
- Create a free website and a free blog
- Webon, www.webonsites.com

Again, the idea is not to spam, but to add useful content. You have to give before you can ever expect to receive. Write a little article, or comment on what is going on in the industry.

You can add 1 or 2 links back to your website so that you are getting the back links to your website. But make sure that you are adding original content each time you are creating these pages.

The nice thing about these tools is that once you set it up the first time, it’s there and it will stay there forever! You can come back and updated these websites every so often.

You are gaining momentum in your business and starting that snowball down the hill. It will grow as people come across your websites, like what you are saying, and they will keep coming back to you.

LinkedIn is a simple, useful tool for any professional. This is the business networking equivalent of being listed in the phone book. It doesn’t require very much attention and can provide a great deal of benefit. Spending half an hour building your profile lets you put your CV out there, easily find your network of contacts, and be visible for the sort of notice you want to receive. If you want to do more, there are great community features. People can recommend you and your work. You can ask questions through LinkedIn Answers and get answers from people who actually know what they’re talking about. The service has exploded in the business sector lately, which is probably due to all the people who used it in college and have moved into the workforce. It’s a good way to connect with people in your industry through groups and keep on top of events of interest. It’s more social and casual than LinkedIn, but less messy and far more professional than MySpace. You can talk about events and ideas through group and event pages, instantly notify people of changes to meet-up plans, and more. This has the added benefit of being useful in your personal life. If you don’t already have a ton of friends on Facebook, you probably will soon enough.

Among the tech elite, Twitter is the place to be right now. Maybe you read about it after its usage during SXSW was all over the internet. Be warned that it’s a love it or hate it thing and can be addictive. Twitter is a micro-blogging or micro-chat service where you can make posts of up to 140 characters. You can follow people and see their “tweets”, they can follow you and see your “tweets”. Only follow the people you really enjoy or benefit fromCEOs, the A-list bloggers, the professional contactsand don’t feel like you have to follow everyone who follows you. If you participate and have a similarly-minded network of people that follow you, Twitter can be a very powerful tool. What’s even better is that you can ask questions and get answers from people who actually know. Need to know which spam filter for your blogging software is best? Ask your Twitter network. You can use the service through web, text messaging, and a host of widgets and services. While you can monitor tweets constantly, you can also take a break for a couple of weeks, come back, and not be behind or swimming in a sea of things that require your feedback.

If the reason you haven’t tried any of this already is because you don’t want to put your life online where everyone can see it, relax. You’re in control of what you put up and how much information you give out. Be judicious in what you put on your profiles, but don’t be afraid of having your life be a little bit public. The benefits of giving people a face to put with the name and a sense of who you are far outweigh any risks you are worried about. If you’re marketing your books online, then you’ve probably heard of Twitter. It was all the rage last year in social media, and millions of people have joined this micro-blogging community. Why? With millions of people tweeting every day, it’s a huge source of potential readers for your book. It’s easy to get followers and it’s a great way to interact with your reading audience. But one of the main excuses I hear about why people aren’t on Twitter-or they aren’t using it fully-is that it’s so time consuming.  Well, it can be. But not if you try the following tips.

Automate Your Tweets
With so many people on Twitter, you need a lot of tweets per day to really maximize your exposure. But you don’t want to spend all day tweeting. Automation is the answer. You can use the following tools to tweet on your behalf.

Hoot Suite: This program allows you to schedule tweets ahead of time. So once a month, you can go into your Hoot Suite account and set it up to tweet several times a day for you. You have to enter each tweet and schedule them one at a time, which can be tedious, but it’s worth getting several days of tweets out of the way at one time. I use this tool especially when I’m announcing a teleseminar or other event that’s scheduled on my calendar.

Social Oomph: This tool also allows you to schedule tweets for later, but the true beauty of Social Oomph is that you can set it to send all your new followers a welcome message. This saves time contacting everyone who follows you, and allows you to start building a relationship with them right away.

Twitter Feed: This tool allows you to link your blog or any other RSS feed to your Twitter account. This means any time you update your blog, a tweet is automatically sent out. You only have to set this up once, and then it works automatically. And it’s a great way to get new eyes on your blog posts.

Make Tweeting Easy
You can only automate so much of your Twitter activity. You’ll also have to check in periodically through the day to communicate with people and send out the more personal tweets, like what you’re working on that day or what you’re excited about. The key to getting it down to ten minutes or less is making it super easy to tweet. Here are a few tips.

Link Your Twitter Account to Your Cell Phone: When your cell phone is linked to your Twitter account, you can take advantage of spare minutes in your day, like when you’re waiting in line or stuck in traffic, to post updates. When you sign up for a Twitter account, you’ll be asked if you want to use your phone with it. And they’ll give you the steps for setting everything up.

Use a Desktop Twitter Manager, Like Tweet Deck: Tweet Deck is a free program that you can download to your computer and use to see everything that’s happening on Twitter in one place. It has a column for the live feed, a column that shows everyone who’s mentioned you, and a column for all the direct messages you receive. This makes the all-important social interaction easy.

Send Quality Tweets
If you want people to respond to you and follow you, then you need to keep them interested. Plus quality tweets will maximize the time you do spend on this social media site. I’ve heard a few different formulas from different Twitter experts, but basically you want a daily mix of tweets that include:

Giving away good information that will interest people in your target audience, such as links to your blog posts, tips, interesting quotes, links to other people’s blog posts, links to articles, etc. This should be the bulk of your Twitter activity-and these are the easiest types of tweets to automate, by the way.

Being nice to people by complimenting them, retweeting their tweets, engaging in conversation, responding to their questions, etc. This is what you do when you check in with your mentions and direct messages.

Being real. Social media is all about being approachable. So once or twice a day, check in with what you’re working on, what’s bugging you, what delicious restaurant you ate lunch at, something funny you found on the web, or what’s going on in your life. Let your followers know the real you, even if you don’t think it’s interesting.

Asking for a sale. The whole point of your Twitter participation is selling books, right? Well, then, at some point you need to ask folks to buy your book. However, you can’t blatantly promote your book all the time (maybe once or twice a day if you have ten-fifteen other tweets going out), and you can’t just come right out and ask people to buy. Try tweeting about some tip from your book and link to a sales page, making it informational as well as subtly promotional.

Tweeting Your Way to Book Sales
Twitter is too big to ignore-especially if you’re marketing your book online. It’s a great, free way to get traffic to your site and find a reading audience. But no one wants to spend all day tweeting. When you use these tips for automating, simplifying, and maximizing your Twitter time, you can reap all the benefits from this using this social media site in ten minutes a day or less!

This is because the followers you will receive are mostly non-targeted. This means that the people following you have little or no interest in what you are tweeting about on Twitter.

Focus on quality over quantity. If you are using Twitter for business, it’s important that you have targeted followers. Don’t expect people to find your Twitter page and click on your link. Make the most of Twitter by tweeting your own posts! Treat your tweets as if they were your headline. Make them attention-grabbing and interesting so more people click through. Try posting the same tweet twice at different times of day to make sure you reach all your readers who didn’t see your first tweet. When you post a tweet multiple times, make sure to delete the first tweet so you don’t look like a spammer.

4. Write Interesting Articles for Your Blog

This might sound obvious but sometimes the more obsessed people get with promoting their blog and social networking, the less they pay attention to writing posts of good quality on a consistent basis. When you are just writing to fill up your blog, it shows. Make sure your posts are very informative, well-written, and that they provide unique information your readers won’t be able to find elsewhere.

5. Make It Easy for Your Followers to Re-Tweet Your Articles

After you’ve done all of the above, you have to leave it to your followers to do the rest. To make it easier for your followers to repost your tweets, add a “tweet this” link at the bottom of your tweets. How do you do it? Simply go to http://addthis.com/ and place the bookmarking plugin in your html.

You may have heard of an internet sensation called Twitter.  The concept of this site is simple:  update people on what you’re currently doing in one hundred forty characters or less.  You can follow people, people can follow you, you can quote what other people are saying and you can reply to what other people are saying.  Twitter essentially creates a fast paced interactive and massive community with similar interests.  So what?

When you join a club or sport, you typically join because you share an interest in that area.  Likewise, you follow people on Twitter because you share a common interest.  Since there’s no limit as to how many followers you can have, you can be in contact with thousands of people with one simple update.  It gets better though.  Imagine thousands of followers in your target market because having a large number of people following you is meaningless if there is no common interest.  If you have thousands of people following you because they have an interest in network marketing, then you have struck gold.

How do you leverage Twitter to create a massive following in your target market though?  How can you have thousands of followers without eating all the hours of your day?  The key is automation.  I have prepared a list of free Twitter marketing tools to aid you in building a massive following.  The three tools I will be talking about are:

-Twitter Karma
-Tweetree
-Tweet Later

Twitter Karma is a tool that helps you maintain a balance between people you are following and people following you.  Twitter Karma allows you to sort users in different categories primarily users that you are following but they aren’t following back, and users that are following you but you aren’t following them back.  Essentially, you just check all and either click bulk follow or bulk unfollow.  Make sure to wait about ten minutes between each submission.  That’s it.  You have a good ratio for your following/followers.

The next tool is called Tweetree.  The main thing you want to use Tweetree for is for the Retweet (RT) button and managing conversations with other users.  Remember, retweeting is simply quoting another user, and usually requires you to type everything out.   With Tweetree, there is a button when you move your mouse over a tweet and an RT button appears.  Simply click that button and hit send.  Now there is no more typing for retweets.  The second function is managing conversations.  Sometimes other users respond to your tweet, but you don’t check until later.  The time gap can lead to confusion as to what the response was referring to.  Tweetree puts a user’s response indented under your tweet so you can continue a conversation and not worry about forgetting what it was all about.

Lastly, Tweet Later is for auto-pilot use.   The main benefits of using this service is to have an automated welcome message and auto follow/unfollow actions.  To edit these settings follow these steps:
1.    Log in to Tweet Later
2.    Click Accounts
3.    Click List Accounts
4.    Click Edit

From here you can edit all automation methods you want to carry out.  Make sure to check the auto welcome box and type in your welcome message.  A word of advice for typing out your welcome message:  Do not post your affiliate link.  There are many Twitter users posting affiliate links in their welcome messages and it makes interaction very impersonal.  Instead, type a friendly message thanking them for following you and link them to a place of value.  Now when I say place of value I mean a blog, Youtube channel, articles page or Facebook.  All of these are acceptable places to lead new followers to, because it builds a personal connection and not the dreaded sales pitch.

If you want to rotate welcome messages, there is a link right above the text box that shows you how to do that.  You may want to rotate people going to your Facebook, blog or articles, so that’s a great way to send traffic everywhere.  

Next you want to check automatically follow people and check automatically unfollow people.  These two options help keep your following and follower ratio in check.

That’s it.  These three free Twitter marketing tools will help you build a massive and target following to leverage your online business.  However, automated software can only do so much.  You need to interact with other users through reply messages and retweets.  Just like any business, developing relationships with people is the only way to rapidly grow your business.  By interacting with other users and applying these tools, your following will grow your Twitter following in no time.

We may have heard of twitter marketing, but what do we know about it? What is it, exactly? How do we use it for basic marketing never mind promoting our real estate business? There are so many questions raised by this one little site that it’s hard to come up with just one broad answer, but here are the main ones.

The site itself is best described as a micro-blogging site. Micro in that you can only use 140 characters per post, blog-like in that what you post and write is viewable straight away. Pretty straightforward so far, right?

To view a post, you have to look for relevant keywords for what you are interested in such as in the case of real estate investing, you would probably be looking for private moneylenders. Then if that post by that person is of interest to you, you can become a ‘follower’ of the poster so you will automatically get updated when they post something new on the site such as updates on different lenders you could inquire with – and so it goes on.

Once you have found the niche that you are looking to follow, such as real estate buyers and are linked up with them, usually they will have started following your posts, it’s at this point that you can benefit from twitter marketing and use it to build your list of real estate prospects and promote your business. For example, you post a message about a certain property at a great short sale price, and everyone that is following you will see what you just posted. Within minutes, anyone searching for hot properties in your area will be alerted, and if it is something they want more information on, they will contact you. Hey, if you’re not using Twitter to build a list of people you can start a relationship for your business, you should take a look at this marketing medium. It’s the fastest and most effective networking tool I’ve seen and used in my marketing business.

Twitter has featured heavily in the news of late, from twitterers breaking news stories ahead of the news wires, to the power of the user community making and hurting brands.

Marketing professionals instinctively know they need to be in this space, but how; in what capacity; with what investment and what are the returns going to be? These are all valid questions and all deserve attention.

So, let’s take a step back and look at how Twitter is currently making an impact and some things to consider when deciding when to tweet.

The Golden Rules:

1. Don’t Sell

First and foremost, Twitter, like any other social media channel is about community. The individuals that are there are not there to be sold to. So, rule number one is: Don’t push sales through this channel. First and foremost, this place is about communication and community.

2. Get Involved

Although following users might provide companies insights into what the Twitter community is talking about, the point is to give information as well as receive it. Posting useful news about your brand or sector might end with your company gathering a host of followers that could very well become, depending on what you have to say, your brand advocates.

3. Add Value

The point of using Twitter is to offer information. If your friends are following you, you might feel comfortable talking about your morning walk into work. If a brand does that, users might find it a bit odd. So if you’re going to post information, which by all means you should, make it useful and relevant to your business, whether it’s about your company specifically or something relating to your industry. Twitterers tend to follow people that “tweet” about things they’re interested in, so keep information up to date and relevant.

4. Respond

Like most things, there are rules of etiquette that should be followed. When people follow you it’s because they’re interested in what you have to say. When they “re-tweet” what you’ve said it’s because they’ve found it valuable enough to share. When someone takes the trouble to comment on what you’ve tweeted, it’s only polite to respond, even if you don’t necessarily like what they have to say.

This is where the real opportunity for user engagement lies. You can set up alerts that go straight to your in-box letting you know when people are talking about your brand. Whether the conversation is negative or positive, you can use this as a tool to reach people on a real personal level. But whatever you do, do not try to stifle the conversation. Allowing people to have their say is what Twitter is based on.

5. Watch your mouth (or be ready for the consequences)

Last month an ad agency representative was flying into FexEx Global Headquarters in Memphis to present on digital media on behalf of their agency, Ketchum. Upon his arrival, he sent out the following tweet:

“True confession but I’m in one of those towns where I scratch my head and say ‘I would die if I had to live here.’”

The tweet was picked up by a FedEx employee who promptly emailed it to all Directors and management within FedEx. The result was an angry letter to the offending twitterer regarding the amount of money spent with his agency and how offended FedEx was at the tweet.

The moral of this story is be careful about what you tweet and be prepared to react to any negative response.

6. Be patient, be persistent

Engaging in social media takes time and commitment and the effects are not always immediate. However, through adding value to the community, you can start to see the audience grow. What you mustn’t do is neglect this channel once you get started, otherwise, your followers will get bored and “unfollow” you. So, being consistent is important. Over time, you may see more and more individuals following what you have to say, responding to you and giving you insights into what is happening in your marketplace. So, direct financial ROI might not be apparent, but by being a long term contributor to Twitter, you can be doing your brand a world of good. (As long as you pay attention to rules one to five)

Other Elements to Consider:

Measurability

One of the statements I’ve heard a lot is, “It sounds good in theory, but I don’t think we’ll get anything out of it. If I can’t get a direct ROI, I can’t justify the investment.” 

I marvel at this attitude given that the volume of budget that is spent on traditional marketing where accountability is difficult (and in some cases) impossible to measure. With Twitter, you can monitor how many people are following you and set up alerts to tell you when your brand is mentioned.

You can add news pieces and blog posts to your tweets that can be tracked back to your site. Also, in some cases, people re-tweeting what you have to say can add to your overall link popularity if they include the URL. In addition, because Twitter is based on people following you because they are interested in what you have to say, it is permission based. Just don’t abuse this by trying to sell.

Being part of the Twitter community is about communication, engagement, value and trust. As long as you remember this when stepping into this channel, you can soon start to see the benefits of the rapidly growing network.
